A little bird in NYC informed me that A.P.C., the French line made famous for its understated, impeccably constructed garments (not to mention its legendary dark-rinse denim), will soon release a new, nature-based multimedia piece.
A.P.C. founder Jean Touitou — who, after decades in fashion, has remained committed to unpresuming simplicity over celebrity — is now authoring a DVD of his journey to the North Pole, and it’s set to karaoke music. Can’t wait for what sounds like a creative gem.

David and I met Paris the Black Fu, lead singer/brainichild behind the Detroit Grand Pubahs, at Mighty on Friday. We ended up spending the weekend hanging out with him around SF. Now ladies, don’t be fooled: onstage, he’s a salacious force to be reckoned with. But offstage, the surprisingly down-to-earth Paris made for considerate and charming company. He shared tidbits about his music writing and production techniques, preferences in his drink (ask me how he takes whisky!), and future plans for DGP Condomints. We introduced him to Pocket Pet, Menstruation Monsters, Ruede Hagelstein and other savory musical treats played at Bottom Feeder.
Paris left his hometown in Detroit for Geneva, where he currently lives with his wife. He’s been working with Dave the Hustler, the drummer for Kate Wax, and has a few releases coming up on his own label, Detelefunk. He claims that Switzerland, despite its fabulous scenery and swanky culture, is sleepy-deepy and seriously lacking in decent sushi, chicken fingers and burgers. By this time we were hungry, so we tempted him with our dazzling array of culinary options before finally settling down at Chow.
As we munched away, Paris revealed his grand saga of the Pubahs. It involves three most curious groups of creatures: the Galactic Ass Creatures from Uranus, the Techmarine Bottom-Feeders (who live in the ocean) and the Asexual Albino Cockroaches with Black Features. We also went down to Amoeba Records and Daljeets on Haight Street, where David helped him pick out a fierce-looking skull ring (above). We ended the evening by gear-crawling around Guitar Center and Robotspeak, where we introduced him to the Dave Smith Evolver. *drool*
On Sunday, we all got together for afternoon drinks before he and Oliver (the Mysterious Mister O, other half of the Pubahs) left for the airport. Paris and I hunted for the latest copy of XLR8R and tried shots of Blueberry Cheesecake for the first time.
Watch out San Francisco, the Pubahs may soon be relocating to our fair city. It’s either here or Portugal, according to the Doctor. In the meantime, you can check out his keyboardist/sax player Mitch every Wednesday at Amnesia. So cute but not so clean — haaa!
