This Friday evening should bring much fun — David Last is coming from New York to unleash a live set for Filter.SF at Anu. Residents Kontakt and Solekandi will be DJing and also playing a new live set called The Soft Whip.
Influenced by the history of funky music outside of techno: 80’s electro hip hop, Jamaican music, latin music, and funk, David Last’s live set is more an ass-shaking dancefloor set than a traditionally defined techno set.
From the critically-acclaimed Pocket Pet project with Japan’s Segeke for the Goosehound Label - to remixes for Wolf + Lamb - to a slew of releases for Found/Unfoundsound plus forthcoming material on Musique Risquee, expect to be hearing a lot about this Brooklyn-based artist and producer in the coming months.
As one of the emerging names in experimental dancefloor minimalism, David Last has translated the format of live laptop techno into a high energy stompfest using elements of dancehall, dub and hip-hop - severely rocking crowds in Australia, Japan and the U.S.
